    What Makes Us Different? Quality

This week McAdams Plumbing continues our discussion on what makes our company different; this week’s topic is Quality.

    High quality plumbing service

Quality, in the service industry, can be looked at as how much the serviceman cares about what he does. Great craftsman care about their trade and they treat the quality of their work as their signatures.  At McAdams Plumbing, our Master Plumbers love their craft and it shows in their work.

You can tell a plumber cares about his work when he cleans his work station, wipes the extra silver of his sweats, double (even triple) checks his elevations, and gets frustrated when his set-up doesn’t look pretty. Our guys do all of those actions. When we finish a job, the customer should stop and think “wow, that looks really nice.” That is what we want. We want our customers to be satisfied and see the difference between quality craftsman and the rest of the guys. Our plumbers work hard to ensure your complete satisfaction.

Take a look at our “The Proof” web page to see some of the high quality work McAdams Plumbing has provided. We have been serving the North Metro and Boulder areas now for over 5 years and continue to grow our reach every month. As a family based company the only way your can maintain that success is by providing the community with a high quality, trustworthy product at a fair price. We don’t have any backers or investors, just an honest, hardworking group of family, friends, and neighbors. With McAdams Plumbing, the Proof is in the Plumbing!

Check in next week for our final What Makes Us Different? installation: Integrity.

What Makes Us Different? Customer Service

Over the next 3 weeks McAdams Plumbing is going to discuss what makes our company different; this week is Customer Service.

    Customer Service

With literally hundreds of plumbing companies in the greater Denver area, there has to be a good reason for a customer to choose one company over the others. The first way McAdams Plumbing sets itself apart from the competition is with our customer service.

We really do care about our customers, and we want them happy all the time. While no one is excited about having to pay for plumbing repairs, we try to at least make it easy on you by understanding your unique situation and empathizing with you. We’ll take the time to talk with you on the phone, offer you prices if we can, even look at pictures or video of the problem to help diagnose. We are flexible and will work to show you why you can trust us.

Now, this isn’t to say we are perfect. We aren’t. We’re human. We make mistakes too. But when mistakes are made we work tirelessly to get the situation resolved in a satisfactory manner. So as a current or future customer, if you are ever dissatisfied, please call us right away. We want to resolve the issue and make it right for you and your family.

McAdams Plumbing is a part of Colorado and we aren’t planning on going anywhere. We have a deep rooted client base and they are our lifeblood. We’d love for you to join them and really understand what it means to be a McAdams Plumbing customer. You will always be treated with integrity and respect.

    Thank you all!

Here to Help with the Colorado Floods

McAdams Plumbing is here to help with the current Colorado floods. In this time of devastation the most important thing is to ensure that friends and family are safe and accounted for. We ask that you please cooperate with any requests for evacuation that may still come. While it seems the worst has past, the forecast shows that it’s not quite over yet.

With all of the excess water that is affecting the Colorado homes, MP has noticed that it seems sump pumps and water heaters are the most common items to fail. Because of this we have decided to offer $100.00 off ANY sump pump or water heater installation for homes affected by flood waters, good through the month of September. There is going to be a lot of stress and worry as our friends and neighbors get their lives and homes back in order. Hopefully we can help take a little of your shoulders.

At McAdams Plumbing our relationships with our customers mean the world to us. If you have been affected by the flood, please don’t hesitate to call. We’re here for you. 303-465-1900.

Are Two and Three Handle Shower Faucets Illegal?

Many people in Colorado with homes 15 years or older may still have two handle faucets. They may even have three handle faucets! These are older outdated models and you may have been told by a plumber that they need to be replaced. Today we are going to talk about why we need to have them replaced.

    Faucet
    3 Handle Tub/Shower Faucet

The Uniform Plumbing Code and International Building Code, in accordance with ASSE 1016, require that all tub/shower faucets now be of the pressure balance or the thermostatic mixing valve type. Two and three valve handles are not. The purpose for this is to prevent serious harm from hot water scalding.

The exact text from the Uniform Plumbing Code book, ISSN 0733-2335, states in section 420.0 – SHOWER
    AND TUB/SHOWER COMBINATION CONTROL VALVES:

“Showers and tub/shower combinations in all buildings shall be provided with individual control valves of the pressure balance or the thermostatic mixing valve type. Gang showers, when supplied with a single temperature controlled water supply pipe, may be controlled by a master thermostatic mixing valve in lieu of individually controlled pressure balance or thermostatic mixing valves.” (pg. 30-31).

So what does this all mean to you? Well, if you have a 2 or 3 handle tub/shower valve currently in your home, you have been grandfathered in and you don’t need to immediately replace it. However, if something goes wrong with that valve and it must be replaced, you will have to do so with a single handle pressure balanced or thermostatically controlled valve.

While you can still purchase these two or three handle faucets online and from some suppliers and install them yourself, or have a non licensed plumbing professional install them, we wouldn’t recommend this. This devalues your home and puts your family at risk of severe water scalding. Let a licensed professional do the necessary work to make sure your home is repaired to code and under a solid warranty. So the direct answer to the question is

2nd Annual Jessica Gahwi Give Sports Drive!

It’s time for the 2nd Annual Jessica Gawhi Give Sports Drive! This event is hosted by Broomfield’s A Precious Child to honor the late Jessica Gawhi, who tragically died in the Aurora Theater shooting of 2012. To honor Jessica, who hoped to help children participate in youth sports programs, her family teamed up with A Precious Child to develop the Give Sports program.

The giveSPORTS program provides new and gently-used sports equipment to disadvantaged and displaced children by allowing them the opportunity to get involved in organized sports. Additionally, giveSPORTS provides scholarships to cover the costs of registration and other sports-related fees. Nearly 75 percent of children in low-income families rarely have the opportunity to participate in organized sports.  Statistically, participation in extra-curricular sports significantly impacts short and long-term educational, emotional, behavioral, and physical outcomes for disadvantaged, poverty stricken youth.

Gov. Hickenlooper has written the following letter concerning the importance of the drive:

You can also read a statement from Denver Post columnist Benjamin Hochman here.

McAdams Plumbing will be out helping to collect donations in the Pepsi Center parking lot on 24/AUG/13 all morning. We will also serve as a drop off point for anyone looking to drop off gently used sporting goods. You can find the yellow bucket just inside our front door. Our business is open from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Thanks in advance!

    Plumber or Handyman?

Hiring a plumber or a handyman to service your home is a decision based on needs really. So we wanted to talk without about the big difference between the two different services. On researching this topic though, we found another article that just summed up the topic so wonderfully, it seemed silly to try and do it over. So the following article comes from Approved Plumbing out of Broadview Heights, Ohio. To read the article in its entirety on their website please click here.

Should You Call a Professional Contractor or Handyman?

Keeping a residence or commercial business in good condition is a tough job.  Water pipes may leak, toilets can overflow and the electricity can go out in the blink of an eye.  Property owners must also pay close attention to how the outside looks, as to not violate any city code violations.  A handyman or professional contractor may be consulted for these issues – but there are major differences in the qualifications and duties of each profession.

Handyman BroomfieldIn simplistic terms, a handyman is someone who works with their hands.  A handyman is hired to execute repairs and keep the home or business in good condition.  Repairing windows, cleaning gutters and mowing lawns are all duties of a handyman.  These services are valuable, but there may be some disadvantages.  There is no license required to be a handyman.  Many services offered by a handyman include common tasks that the property owners can do themselves, and often is just a matter of finding the time or motivation to do it.

On the other hand, a plumber’s training is more extensive and requires a formal education.  Most qualified plumbers go through a four year apprenticeship and theory program to learn specific state and municipal plumbing codes.  The profession typically requires in-field training for up to eight or nine years.  Plumbers are also required to pass a state issued examination in order to work on their own.  Codes are constantly changing so continuing education is required for all licensed plumbing contractors.

Plumbers are responsible for the installation and upkeep of a variety of fixtures.  They monitor and adjust water temperature and gas pressure inside a home or business.  They make sure drains and pipes are the proper size based on local codes.  Plumbers also make sure grab bars and sinks are installed at the correct height.  Essentially, their job is to protect the health and safety of their customers.

    Handyman Colorado

Calling a plumber is ideal for all circumstances, such as that annoying leaky faucet or broken pipehidden behind a wall.  Plumbers have special tools that only a licensed professional should work with.  Gas line equipment in particular requires very specific knowledge and training that’s best left to a professional.  When un-licensed contractors use this equipment, they put everyone’s safety at risk.  Many home and business owners contact plumbers because they know that the job will be done in a professional manner and in accordance with all safety and plumbing codes.

Obviously there are several differences between a plumber and handyman.  A handyman’s services are appropriate for general maintenance of a home or building and a plumber deals with “the inner workings” of a home or business based on specific codes and safety regulations.  It is in the consumer’s best interest to ensure that a plumber is properly licensed.

Knowing the advantages and pitfalls of each profession can be very beneficial.  The reality is that a small issue can yield a larger one if not dealt with appropriately.  Choosing between a handyman or a professional contactor to make your repair can be critical to a successful outcome and your safety.

Dennis. Should You Call a Professional Contractor or a Handyman? Weblog. 6 Jul. 2011. Web. 6 Aug. 2013. Available at http://www.approvedplumbing.com/call-professional-contractor-handyman/.

This is why a professional plumbing company can not compete with the standard rates of a handyman. The licensing, insurance, education, and equipment all have related fees. It’s just like taking your car to the shop. You’ll pay a little more to have your vehicle serviced at the dealership, but there you know the mechanic is certified to work on that particular vehicle, and will back up that work with a warranty. Taking that same car to any uncertified shop runs the risk of having the work done improperly, or even causing more damage.

A special thanks on behalf of Approved Plumbing for the excellent article.
