Plain and simple, if you are in business and deal with customers you are offering customer service.
When answering a phone, before you pick up be sure you are smiling, it truly does reflect in the tone of your voice on the other end with your customer.

Forget the gimmicks, give your customers fair up front pricing from the beginning. Customers want and deserve to be appreciated for their patronage to your business. Always say “Thank You” and really mean it! Your customers are why you are in business.

Do what you say you are going to do and don’t put your customers in a position to have to reach out to find out what is going on. Communicate with your customers honestly. If there is conflict, resolve it by offering solutions. Give the customer your immediate attention so the situation can be resolved quickly and to both parties satisfaction.

We recently bought a home that had a couple plumbing issues. Rick did a great job installing an updated drain pipe for a high efficiency washing machine as well as proper gas line shutoffs on our furnace and water heater. The end results look great and we’ll definitely be calling McAdams plumbing when we need help in the future.
McAdams Plumbing, Inc reply:
Thank you for taking the time to give us such a great review Kurt! We are so glad to have been a part of making your new home perfect for you. We appreciate your loyalty and look forward to working with you in the future!

This company has helped me twice (different issues). The second time I tried to avoid calling them by doing the work myself and I was almost (so close) successful but there was a leak so I ended up calling McAdams. They came and not only fixed the leak (which wasn’t my fault as it turned out – yay!) but replaced an old pipe and changed the handle too so it’ll be easier for me next time. Rick is a great guy and the woman who schedules the appointments is kind and always answers the phone which is nice. I’m glad I found this company.
McAdams Plumbing, Inc reply:
We are so glad to have you as such a loyal customer! Thank you for taking the time to write us such a great review! Those DIY jobs can be tricky but we are glad that we were able to tackle any of the loose ends with you. We look forward to working with you in the future!

As 2015 comes to an end, our family here at McAdams Plumbing, Inc. would like to send a very heartfelt thank you to you and your family. We have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful new customers this year which would not have been possible without your continued support. Since we opened in 2009, we have been blessed with the best customers in the best community.
We were also blessed with a couple opportunities this year to give back to a very special charity in our community. As many of you may know, our charity of choice for 5 years now has been the highly respectable, A Precious Child.
In March we were able to raise over $10,000 for A Precious Child at the 6th Annual APC Bowl-A-Thon. Not only were we raising money for this great charity, but we also were able to have such a wonderful time with some of our closest friends and family.

Then, in November we were reminded once again of what a wonderful support group we have when we sponsored a table at the Heroes of A Precious Child Luncheon. We were able to get together ten of our closest friends and loyal customers to enjoy a great meal for a great cause.

Once again, we would like to thank you, our customers, for your support in events like those listed above. None of this would have been possible without you.
Finally, a little bit about our family here in the office.

Stinky garbage disposal? Throw some lemon rinds down it! Don’t know what to do with those eggshells? Go ahead and send those down the disposal too!
Problem solved right? Wrong.
There are many myths in the do-it-yourself plumbing world, such as those listed above. Unfortunately, believing some of these myths can cause a whole lot more trouble than triumph.
Below is a great blog posted by our friends at Horizon Services, Inc. They were able to wonderfully highlight 5 of the most common plumbing myths that will have you flushing your money down the toilet.

Are you a homeowner who needs to learn about maintaining your plumbing system? If so, it’s important that you learn how to do so effectively without trying practices that may damage your system or your pipes. Here are five myths about home plumbing you’ll want to avoid.
While a running a lemon rind through the disposal may make your drain smell better, it won’t actually get it clean. To disinfect your garbage disposal, you will need to use a cleaning solution that includes a mild soap and warm water. Before you attempt to use it, however, make sure you disconnect the disposal from its power source. Spray the cleaning solution into the disposal, give it a few minutes to work, and then use a cleaning brush to scrub the disposal itself.
Many homeowners believe that they can put just about anything down their garbage disposals as long as they run water. The truth, however, is that some things do not belong in a garbage disposal no matter how much water you run. Hard or thick food items, such as banana peel and eggshells, can damage your disposal, which may require an expensive repair or drain cleaning. If you’re considering putting thick foods down your disposal, you’ll need to break them up thoroughly and mix them with water beforehand.
Even when your garbage disposal is operating, it may still be at risk of a serious clog. One of the early warning signs of an impending problem is a slow moving disposal, or waste fragments that remain on the discharge pipe. If you notice either of these signs when you use your disposal, it’s developing a clog, even though it may still be working. Stop using it right away until you have the clog removed.
Depending on the type of plumbing fixtures you have, hand soap may actually be damaging to the surface. Brass plumbing fixtures, for example, should be cleaned with gentle solutions such as cut lemons and baking soda. Toilet bowls, however, need to be cleaned with an effective disinfectant to kill germs and prevent infection.
This is one of the most dangerous home plumbing myths of all, because homeowners who believe it may run into serious problems later on. Pipes may be obstructed by clogs, wayward tree roots, or shifting home foundations. Homeowners should also inspect their sewer cleanouts for obstructions. All of these issues may lead to expensive plumbing repair, such as a sewer line replacement or a pipe replacement. The fixtures inside the home such as sinks, faucets, and tubs also need regular maintenance to avoid serious drain clogs.

Buying a new water heater can be expensive but then you also have to worry about hiring someone to install it?! It may sound tempting to save a few bucks and do the install yourself but that may not be the most effective or safest route to take.
Below we are highlighting a great blog posted by our partners at Bradford White. They were not only able to address why you should hire a professional but also why it is important.
To read the original article in it’s entirety please click here.
Hope you enjoy!
———————————————————————————————————————–
Why hire a pro?
Yes, it’s tempting to run down to the big box store, throw a water heater in a cart, and head home with your purchase. But a water heater isn’t a gallon of paint. You can’t just cover up your mistakes. There are serious risks to you, your family, your home or business by “Doing-it-Yourself” incorrectly.
Are you a qualified gas appliance installer?
Proper installation of gas and oil-fired water heaters requires understanding of the fuel source, connection techniques, supply line materials, and start up procedures. Leaking fuel can, at best, be an awful mess and, at worst, be a very dangerous situation. Hiring a professional ensures a safe installation.
Can you vent it properly?
Venting material requirements and configurations vary by water heater design. So do approved vent lengths. Maybe your new water heater won’t operate with your existing venting materials. Carbon monoxide is nothing to fool around with. Your pro will know.
Electric models are pretty simple, right?
Actually, there’s more to them than you might imagine. Installation of electric water heaters requires knowledge of the properly rated wiring material as well as an understanding of the home’s electrical capacity. An adequate electrical service is a requirement.
But doesn’t it come with an installation manual?
Installing a water heater can be a challenge. An inexperienced installer or do-it-yourselfer could inadvertently dry-fire the elements, damage delicate parts, cross-thread gas connections, forget the drain pan, ignore the need for an expansion tank… the list is endless.
Your water heater is leaking, now what?
Even the very best water heaters don’t last forever but that doesn’t mean yours is finished. Competent troubleshooting by a professional can sometimes save you a lot of money. It may just be condensation, a loose fitting, a pin hole in the piping, a worn out valve, or a pressure release. Your professional installer might find a simple solution.
Why don’t you have hot water?
If your water heater looks fine but it just won’t produce hot water, a professional can diagnose what may be a simple problem. You may just need an inexpensive replacement part. Diagnosing the problem is part of the professional’s job
Are you getting the most for your dollar?
Not all water heaters are created equal. Some of the very best brands and most innovative models are not available in retail outlets. These water heaters are sold by wholesale suppliers to professional installers.
More hot water from the same size tank?
Yes, it’s absolutely possible. Extra Recovery models, High Input models, High Performance models…they all can provide more hot water than conventional models. It’s always a good idea to discuss your options with an installation professional.
Is it time to up-size?
Peak Hour Demand, a growing family, additional plumbing fixtures, and multiple draws are some of the reasons to consider a higher capacity or output model. Proper sizing is critical to your ultimate satisfaction.
Interested in saving energy and money?
Some water heaters now carry an ENERGY STAR® certification, some are high efficiency, and some can be programmed to operate only when needed. These choices may cost a little more but the return on your investment can be considerable. Ask your installer to recommend the energy saving option that’s best for you.
If something goes wrong, who will you turn to?
As we’ve always said, “Do it yourself and you’ll only have yourself to blame.” Professional installers provide a service and part of that service is to stand behind their work.
Can you get it done cheaper?
Possibly, but what is your peace of mind worth? Knowing you have the right water heater for your needs, knowing it was installed correctly, and knowing you have someone to count on gives you confidence. That is a priceless commodity you can get at a reasonable price.
So what is the best water heater for you?
There’s a very simple answer. The very best water heater you can get for you and your family is the one installed by a trained plumbing and heating professional.

]]>The post Happy Veterans Day appeared first on McAdams Plumbing, Inc.
]]>Veterans Day is one of McAdams Plumbing’s favorite holidays because it gives us an opportunity to thank all of those military personnel for the hard work and sacrifice they made to protect out freedoms.
The folks here at McAdams Plumbing are no stranger to service either. Our Master plumber Rick served in the Army Rangers, and Chris M served with the U.S.A.F. We understand what it means to sacrifice, but we also understand there are those who sacrificed so much more then we could ever imagine.
I ask everyone who reads this to not just say “thank you” to a veteran for their service, but to take some time to personally connect with a veteran you know and learn from their experiences. Military service offers a vantage point to life, government, and sacrifice that few people ever see.
Only about 6% of the US population have served in the military, and less than 1% are currently active. That helps put perspective around how special it is to serve. Veteran’s are part of an extremely small fraternity and we must remember that this fraternity consists of mostly volunteers, so these folks deserve our respect.
So on behalf of McAdams Plumbing, I would like to thank every veteran who has ever served our country in any capacity. Your sacrifices will not go unnoticed and you are appreciated more than you can imagine. Hold your heads high soldiers, today we celebrate you, and you deserve it.
Integrity First
Service Before Self
Excellence In All We Do
P.S. A special thank you to our following friends for their service:
Sorry if we missed anyone, but thank you too!

]]>The post Shopping Online for Plumbing Fixtures? Beware! appeared first on McAdams Plumbing, Inc.
]]>Shopping for online plumbing fixtures can be a dangerous endeavor.
This is not the first time McAdams Plumbing has touched on this subject (and honestly, it won’t be the last) but we feel it’s very important for folks to know what to expect when it comes to plumbing fixtures.
Today, however, we are going to let the folks from Faucets Galore talk a bit about the issues you can run into when trying to order plumbing products online.
Enjoy!
(You can read the original text in its entirety here)
————————————————–
Blindfolded? Absolutely, and most don’t even know it. Unfortunately, folks are completely unaware of the pitfalls of buying plumbing fixtures online, and they get trapped into the so-called “advantages”. Buying online may be wise for some things, or at the very least not too painful if something goes wrong, like when you’re buying shoes or jewelry. But when you’re buying heavy or specialty plumbing fixtures, this is a very risky endeavor.
We’ve had many customers come to us after they’ve purchased plumbing fixtures online, and upon hearing some of the same horror stories over the years, we thought we’d share some of their most common complaints. As many have warned in numerous online articles,
“Buyer Beware when Shopping Online”
1) Your item may not be what you thought you ordered, or may not include all the components you need. Unfortunately, one cannot truly know what’s being purchased online, until they actually receive the item. The item could be exactly as you expected, or way off; it may include all the components you need, or it may not. Descriptions are great, and the more the better, but they can never take the place of knowing for sure.
“We think the amount of fraud and counterfeit goods that were sold to consumers was between $110 and $140 million just this past holiday season,” James Lee of the Consumer Fraud Center in Santa Monica said.
2) Shipping Expenses to Receive. Lots of online retailers offer smokin’ deals on pricing, but put the item in your cart (especially with tubs and toilets) and you’ll likely get sticker shock for the shipping cost.
3) Defects, Damage, Mistakes. It’s never fun to wait patiently for an item, only to receive it damaged, defective, or the wrong unit altogether. Dealing with these issues with online retailers can be very challenging, sometimes even a real nightmare, not to mention the additional time to wait for a replacement. This’ll delay your remodel significantly.
4) Shipping Expenses to Return Unwanted Items & Restocking Fees. If you don’t like an item, or need to switch to a different color/finish, you will pay for the return shipping on your own, and may likely have to pay a restocking fee. These fees add up quick, therefore many will keep undesired items they would have otherwise returned. Do you really want to look at that toilet you don’t like everyday?
5) Online Security – or lack of it. We’ve all heard the dangers here. Fraud and security breaches are everywhere online, and it looks like it’s only getting worse. Security is even in jeopardy with large retailers now, and those with whom you’d never expect to have such a problem. The internet is too sweet a pond for hackers and thieves not to play in. To add insult to injury, more often than not now, they get off scott-free. As such, they boldly laugh in the face of enforcement. So much so that now they’re even holding police departments’ data for ransom! How more brazen can you get?! If these vermin have so little a chance of being prosecuted, they’ll just keep comin’. And sadly, everything retailers try to do in thwarting this problem is always just a step behind. No site can boast they are 100% free of these cockroaches. If/when one is caught, another is waiting in the wings, with better software and more clever systems to beguile shoppers and retailers. It’s just a sign of our digital times.
6) Spyware. This part gets even scarier. Our computers are like fishbowls now. The amount of data collected and housed by online retailers and browsers is getting so massive and invasive, that it makes just looking around online a negative experience.
7) Some online retailers do a very good job reducing the above risks when buying online, but knowing exactly who those retailers are takes experience, and are you really willing to bet your remodel on selecting the right one? Even then, things still do go wrong, and isn’t it nicer to have a local, real person available to resolve your issues? We believe it is.
Our objective isn’t to scare people with this article, but in keeping with our overall mission of being an Information Center, our paramount concern is that folks are informed. As we consider adding more e-commerce to our website, we will do so as a brick & mortar store, where our customers can have real access to real people for questions, and to address concerns or issues.
– There’s a whole host of articles available online that discuss this subject in detail. You may want to view two different articles both entitled,”The Disadvantages of Online Shopping” here and here, as well as “The Computer Revolution/E commerce/Disadvantages”.
